PAX - Peace, Productivity, Health, and Happiness
Here at Cardwell School we believe in the early implimentation of positive student to teacher and student to student relationships. One of the ways that we strive to achieve this is by using the PAX Good Behavior Game schoolwide. At the beginning of the school year, students in each classroom create a PAX Vision Board that outlines what the students want to See/Hear/Feel/Do more and less at school by imagining the most wonderful school in the world and thinking about what they would do to bring more peace, productivity, health, and happiness to everyone. Throughout the school day teachers ask students to predict which PAX behaviors are desired for an activity before it starts, then students reflect on their preformance after an activity. Allowing students to set their own expectations and then have a guided reflection is necessary from the development of their self-regulation. When teachers see students acting in positive PAX ways, the students are rewarded with a short silly game. When students are acting in negative PAX ways, that behavior is called a Spleem and the students would have to miss out on the short silly game. Implimenting PAX at Cardwell has altered student behavior for the better. Students are engaged more during classtime and know exactly what behavior is expected of them before starting an activity. PAX being a schoolwide management system allows for unity of teachers' responses for both positive and negative behavior throughout the school.
